MUKZIN x HARBIN AW 2020 Runway
Chinese brand Mukzin’s runway show opened at New York Fashion Week in February 2020. After presenting fashion collections “The Theater of Mao’er”, “The Jade in the Shadow”, and “Daan”, Designer Kate Han of MUKZIN revealed the 2020AW collection last Thursday.
MUKZIN was established in 2014 by Han, a Dalian, China born designer who graduated from Leeds University Art School in the UK. Her deconstruction and reimagination of traditional Chinese culture through contemporary design has gained her recognition in the fashion industry.
Since launching the brand, Han has been in Shanghai Fashion Week for 3 consecutive years, and was awarded in 2017 the Pioneer Designer Award by the Asian Fashion Federation.
This season’s collection was in collaboration with Harbin brewery, one of the oldest Chinese beer brands. The designs and colors used were heavily inspired by ancient Chinese clothing. The designer incorporated details from the Ming and Qing Dynasty to “show the spirit of the sorceress from ancient China”. Han further discusses the collection in an interview with Jing Daily.
