Athleisure Capsule Wardrobe
The capsule wardrobe is one in which all of the elements share a thematic style or look so as to be cross-matched and make several individual outfits from only a few items.
Creating an athleisure capsule wardrobe in addition to your basics capsule is a great way to choose fewer, higher quality workout gear pieces. It is easy to fall into the trap of using athletics clothes as your basics. And while wearing your yoga pants to the grocery store is totally permissible, owning nineteen pairs of yoga pants that you never actually wear to yoga is against the grain of the minimalist meaning of the capsule wardrobe. So choose your leggings with care and purpose, to find a few high quality items you really want to include in your capsule.
Your athleisure capsule wardrobe should include:
- 4 workout tops
- 2 pairs of leggings
- 2 pairs of shorts
- 1 sweatshirt or running jacket
- 3 sports bras
- 1 pair of sneakers
- 1 one-piece bathing suit
- 1 pair athletic slides
Your capsule should meet your workout needs for all seasons, so consider lengths of items, such as full length leggings versus shorts. Whether you are jogging, doing yoga, or going for a swim, these items should be mix-and-matchable for all of your exercise needs.
And here’s the kicker: You only get one pair of sneakers. That’s all you need. One. Pair. Of. Sneakers. Get a high quality pair of running sneakers with great support and a flexible fit. Any casual sneakers should fall under your basics capsule and do not belong in your athleisure category.
Workout clothes are often made in bright colors, and for good reason: when exercising outdoors you should choose hi-vis options so that motorists will catch you jogging down a shady street or a lifeguard will spot your swimming laps at the far end of the pool.
